On Sunday, August 11, 2019 Lake Scugog in Port Perry was host to the Durham Anglers Association 6th Annual Angler-New-Angler Charity Fishing event which benefits Dave Mercer’s Casting for a Cure. The event, held every year, pairs a first-time angler with a pro angler in the hopes of growing the love of the sport as well as raising funds for a charity that supports those with special needs such as autism.

The Angler-New-Angler tournament brings the expertise of the members of the Durham Anglers Association (D.A.A.) and other professional anglers to a fun day on the water teaching and sharing the passion of the sport with individuals who have never picked up a rod and reel.

Thanks to our generous partners, those within the industry as well as those that support the event every year we are able to provide amazing prizes to every angler that participates as well as amazing items for the silent auction.

Durham Anglers Association member, Dan Risorto says, “The D.A.A. is just a small group of people that love fishing and try to raise money for a great cause while sharing the sport with others. We are proud of our members and all those that help to make this event grow every year! We have raised over $64,000.00 since the inception of this event. That’s something that everyone involved should be very proud of.”

Dave Mercer commented, “This is truly an event that I look forward to every year. We are very lucky to have the D.A.A. – a great group of passionate anglers run this event to support Casting for a Cure. To be able to fish on my home lake and participate with all these people and to have the support of the D.A.A., the CSFL, all our sponsors, friends and family – it truly is a great event to be a part of.”

Dave Mercer’s Casting for a Cure supports Nova’s Ark, a place where special is welcome. Nova’s Ark provides social and communication opportunities for people of all ages and abilities such as autism, involving a wide range of gentle therapy animals.
